I really enjoy John Singer Sargent’s work. I love what he does with his subjects, they look very regal, for example Portrait of Madame X. I also love the way he does fabrics, the confident strokes of highlight really distinguish what kind of fabric he is painting.
I was lucky to be able to see Sargent’s exhibit in the Art Institute of Chicago. This oil portrait of Mrs. George Swinton (Elizabeth Ebsworth) painted in 1897 is one of my favorite. The translucent fabric on her left sleeve is just exquisite.
I too adore John Singer Sargent’s work! We are going to have a great semester!
